    to get glorious carmelised onions ...try doing the following.. in a thick based frying pan heat a little butter/oil, add the onions and sprinkle with a little sugar ( about half a teaspoon to a pound of onions.Allow to gently cook and stir to stop catching and blackenning. patience is the key as all the oniony flavours deepen with the slow cooking
